Summary:

It has been found that a person's gait (step-to-step walking intervals) is not a random set of movements, but a complex set of fluctuations that can be characterized to determine levels of neurological functioning. Researchers at the University of Nebraska Medical Center have developed the Gait-O-GramTM, a portable sensor device and software that can be used to analyze neuromuscular functions from a persons step. Using the Gait-O-GramTM software, data can be analyzed to determine a large number of conditions including, but not limited to: advances in physical therapy, different levels of Parkinson's disease, peripheral artery disease, and elderly individuals susceptible to falls.
