Adamantane Analogues
Adamantane is a chemical with a unique symmetrical rigid structure that has been used in the past to modify an amino group to work as an anti-viral against certain strains of Influenza-A. However, little investigation has been done for the base compound and other antiviral effects it may have. Researchers at the University of Nebraska Medical Center have developed new adamantine analogues that comprise a non-toxic water-soluble anionogenic polymer carrier that can be used to specifically direct the compound to host cells. Data indicates that this invention can inhibit an HIV 1 infection in lymphoblastoid cells.
